On October 1, 2003. Mid-Bay Rotary hosted District Governor Wayne Etheredge, Nelda Etheredge and Assistant Governor John Keith. Highlight
of the meeting included presenting Tammy Williams, Okaloosa Walton
Community College Nursing Student, Mid-Bay’s $1,000 scholarship,
presenting Mid-Bay Rotarian Bill Holler the Mid-Bay’s “Service Above Self”
award for Rotary Year 2002-2004, announcing Mid-Bay will be participating
in Okaloosa Public Schools Foundation, Take Stock in Children Scholarship
Program ($4,400), announcing Mid-Bay’s Centennial Project will be a
pavilion at Rocky Bayou (Gannon) State Park, and announcing that Mid-Bay’s
Oktoberfest set all fund raising records.
Mid-Bay Rotary President Ron Moore presented Nelda Etheredge one
children’s book (three additional boxes were also given) to be sent to
disadvantaged children – “if a child has a book, they have a better chance
to read.” Mid-Bay Rotarians also surprised Nelda by singing to her the
favorite (as edited), “Let Us Call You Sweetheart.” This was topped off
by presenting Nelda a bouquet of flowers – all in appreciation of what
Nelda has done for Rotary. District Governor Wayne Etheredge reiterated
what Rotary International has done for Polio Eradication. He also
mentioned his adoration for the vision of Rotary International President
Jonathan Majiyagbe and his late wife, Ade. Governor Wayne then
re-emphasized President Jonathan’s visions for Rotary Year 2003 – 2004:
Reduce Poverty, World Medical Concerns (other that Polio), Literacy to
include giving children’s books and mentoring a child, and the
significance of the Rotary Foundation. He urged all Rotarians to be
Sustaining Members. District 6940 District Conference will take place
April 16 - 18, 2003 at the Edgewater Resort, Panama City.
The meeting was culminated by the Rotary tradition of exchanging
club/district flags. Mid-Bay also presented Governor Wayne a Mid-Bay
Rotary paper weight. Also attending the Mid-Bay meeting were two students
from Niceville High School’s Interact Club. |
